By all accounts, Madison Coe was a shining star.

    The bubbly 14-year-old girl from Lubbock, Texas, was a talented athlete and a member of the marching band. She was preparing for her family’s move to Houston where she would begin her first year of high school.

Local students take ‘trip of a lifetime’ to Washington

Pointe Coupee Electric and NRG Energy/Louisiana Generating, LLC recently joined forces to sponsor six students as part of the 53rd Annual Electric Cooperative Youth Tour in Washington, D.C.

    The six delegates were awarded the free trip to Washington by being selected winners of Pointe Coupee Electric’s Youth Tour Essay Writing Competition.

     Representing Pointe Coupee Electric were Charlie Newchurch of Pointe Coupee Parish, MaKayla Lacy from West Baton Rouge Parish and Zoë Bertrand of Iberville Parish.

Irvin Settoon, Sr. retires from Pointe Coupee Electric Board of Directors after 29 years

Pointe Coupee Electric Board Member Irvin Settoon, Sr., officially announced his retirement from the board during the cooperative’s monthly board meeting on May 25, 2017. Mr. Settoon has served on the board since January 27, 1988, having served as the board’s Vice President for the past 25 years. Mr. Settoon represented the co-op members of District 7 which encompasses the Bayou Pigeon and Bayou Sorrel areas in Iberville Parish.

Pointe Coupee Electric Presents Math & Science Awards to Local Students

Pointe Coupee Electric Membership Corporation is proud to be a partner in education. Your electric cooperative sponsors a variety of educational programs throughout the local schools in its tri-parish service area. One of these programs is the Math & Science Awards Program. Pointe Coupee Electric just recently presented numerous Math and Science Awards to students in many of its adopted schools throughout its tri-parish service area. Pointe Coupee Electric Sponsors 12th Annual Art Contest

Recently the children of Pointe Coupee Electric members as well as children who attend one of Pointe Coupee Electric’s adopted schools were invited to participate in the cooperative’s 12th annual art contest.  The art was required to have an electrical theme and the words “Thank You” had to be included somewhere within the drawing.  All art entries become the property of Pointe Coupee Electric, and the winning art will be displayed throughout the Pointe Coupee Electric’s office buildings.  First place winners received a $35 Wal-Mart gift card, a plaque and a certificate.

Pointe Coupee Electric Announces 2017 Scholarship Winners

     Pointe Coupee Electric announced the 2017 winners of the continuing education scholarships at its 78th Annual Membership Meeting earlier this year. A $1000.00 scholarship is awarded each year to a graduating senior from each of the three parishes that Pointe Coupee Electric serves.   

PCEMC selects 2017 Youth Tour winners

Winners of the annual Youth Tour Essay Contest sponsored by PCEMC and Louisiana Generating, LLC a subsidiary of NRG Energy, Inc., were announced at a banquet held at the co-op’s office in New Roads on Feb. 21.

Representing PCEMC and winning the all expense-paid trip to Washington, D.C., to the National Rural Electric Cooperative Association’s (NRECA) Youth Tour Conference are Charlie Newchurch of Pointe Coupee Parish, MaKayla Lacy from West Baton Rouge Parish and Zoë Bertrand of Iberville Parish.

Pointe Coupee Electric officials look back on a tumultuous 2016

In his first Annual Meeting report to members, Pointe Coupee Electric General Manager Myron Lambert said he was ready to leave 2016 behind and look ahead to the future.

Lambert, who took over as general manager six months ago, said both the cooperative and the community faced many challenges in 2016 but emerged stronger and more prepared to achieve success in the months and years ahead.

Pointe Coupee Electric Provides 2016 Educational Mini-Grants to Local Schools

Teachers whose schools are within a community served by Pointe Coupee Electric and whose students' homes or parents' businesses are served by the Cooperative are eligible for educational grants under an educational program sponsored by the Co-op. According to Myron A. Lambert, General Manager of the company, youth and education are a top priority of the Co-op. Lambert states, "Pointe Coupee Electric is totally committed to our members and continually strives to improve the quality of life in the communities in which we serve.
